Alone woman in the nature
Hi my name is Tonya Buchys, and I was in your same position for 12 years. I was raising a family, working a full time career, while being a full-time caregiver for my mother, living with dementia. As her health declined, her care increased. My responsibilities with my family, work, and home in addition to caring for my mother’s every need, created an overwhelmed feeling. I was in a sense, spiraling out of control and felt as though I was drowning. Initially, I did not recognize that I was struggling as badly as I had been.
The signs that I missed:
  • Irritability
  • Lack of patience
  • Forgetfulness
  • Fatigue
  • Internal anxiety, others could not see, but I felt I was a ball of anxiety.
When you are in it, you just do it. You may not realize how much your caregiving role may be affecting you.

The bottom line is you do have to make time for yourself.

If you are not your best, how can you be the best for someone else?

Otherwise, it could affect you long term, emotionally, mentally or even physically.

Looking back, I learned a very valuable lesson, about how important it is to take time for yourself and the importance of self-care. Since going through my own personal struggles, I sought out several different resources and began to implement them for myself. I wished I had known about or practiced while I was in the position I was in because it would have helped me tremendously to cope better and not end up feeling that sense of drowning.

Even if it is once a year, that time away to unplug from your daily responsibilities as a caregiver,  could help save you emotionally, mentally and physically. You may even feel yourself holding on to a thread. If so, it is important to STOP… for YOU!

Join us at one of our retreats where you realize you are not alone on this difficult journey, living in the sandwich generation of caregiving. Come to a place where you can unplug and re-energize yourself, along with fellow caregivers needing a break. Allow yourself the freedom, and the opportunity to escape, as we created the kind of retreat you want and need. Step into our harmonious collaboration and immerse yourself in our vibrant, caring and spirited community.

At the end of the retreat, it is our goal for you the leave feeling rejuvenated and ready to return home, as a better version of you, for yourself, your family and your loved one. Since learning so many valuable tools for myself, I have felt compelled to help other caregivers who may be going through the same or similar situation and may be experiencing caregiver burnout.
